Max Verstappen has set the pace in Free Practice 1 at the Barcelona GP 2026, edging out his rivals by a fraction of a second. The Dutch driver's time of 1:20.234 was the fastest of the day, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz rounding out the top three.
The session was marked by a number of close calls, including a near-miss for Lando Norris, who clipped the barrier at Turn 7. Despite the incident, Norris was able to continue driving and set a time good enough for 10th place.
The Barcelona GP 2026 continues on Saturday with Free Practice 2, which will see the drivers take to the track once again in preparation for qualifying.
